COUNSELOR         

Position: Counselor

Hours: Non-exempt, full-time 35 hours per week

Qualifications

  1. Must be a Licensed Master of Social Worker ( LMSW).

  2. Ability and willingness to counsel people with all types of disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities, 2 years counseling experience preferred.

  3. Ability to effectively interact and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  4. Ability to multi-task and work effectively in both a team and individual setting.

  5. Excellent conflict resolution skills, interpersonal and communication skills.

  6. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  7. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

  8. Strong commitment to the integration of people with disabilities into all aspects of community life.

Responsibilities

  1. Comply with all STIC policies and procedures, as well as NYSED Education Law Article 154 Social Work requirements and the Social Workers Code of Ethics.

  2. Provide counseling to consumers with all types of disabilities and/or their families (including any combination of co-occurring conditions).

  3. Offer guidance and/or resources to staff working with consumers about difficult situations who have mental health issues.

  4. Supervise student interns working towards a social work or other counseling-related degrees if applicable.

  5. Attend all mandatory agency trainings, meetings, sign language class and advocacy groups.

  6. Maintain program service records, collect statistical data and prepare and submit program reports as required.

  7. Other job-related tasks as needed and time permits.
