PEER COUNSELING
The Peer Counseling Program at the Southern Tier Independence Center (STIC) in Binghamton, New York, offers a supportive, empowering environment for individuals with disabilities to connect with trained peer counselors who share similar lived experiences. Designed to foster independence and self-confidence, this program provides one-on-one guidance to help participants navigate personal challenges, set goals, and develop essential skills for independent living. Whether addressing issues like self-advocacy, accessing community resources, or managing daily tasks, our peer counselors offer empathetic, practical support tailored to each person’s unique needs.
Grounded in the independent living philosophy of consumer control, STIC’s Peer Counseling Program emphasizes empowerment through shared understanding and mutual support, creating a safe space for participants to explore their aspirations and overcome barriers. Our counselors provide mentorship on, helping individuals build resilience and achieve greater community integration. Sessions are flexible, offered in-person at our accessible facility at our main office in Binghamton, or through alternative formats like phone or video conferencing to accommodate diverse needs.
