After furious public outcry, the Trump Administration reversed itself and restored the funding for the deafblind programs. However, it is too soon to declare unconditional victory; the funding is being rerouted through another organization and is guaranteed for only one year, rather than multiple years as before. We shall have to remain vigilant, because the threat has been forestalled, but not eliminated.
Those caveats granted, this episode demonstrated that the executive branch, as much as it would like to deny it, has a healthy fear of arousing the anger of the American people. We all have a voice, and we must use it frequently and vigorously!
