STIC’s Housing Education and Advocacy Program is a complete source of information for topics related to affordable, accessible, integrated housing for people with disabilities and seniors. STIC’s Housing Educator/Advocate also works to increase affordable, accessible, and integrated housing opportunities in our three-county service area as the lack of appropriate housing is one of the greatest barriers to community integration for people with disabilities and seniors, including those wishing to avoid or transition from institutional settings.

By fostering relationships between the disability, aging, and housing communities, as well as other stakeholder groups, STIC’s Housing Educator/Advocate will develop strategies to address systems advocacy issues related to housing for people with disabilities and seniors.

Additionally, STIC’s Housing Educator/Advocate can provide information, training and technical assistance on various topics related to housing for individuals with disabilities. This may include but is not limited to:
• Housing resources and subsidies
• Housing laws affecting seniors and people with disabilities
• Statewide housing opportunities and initiatives

The Housing Education and Advocacy program can also make referrals for various programs and services including:
• Accessibility modifications handicap accessible
• Home repairs for little or no cost USDA Rural Development.
• Weatherization Programs
• Rent Subsidy Programsrent subsidy programs
• Home buying assistance

Service Area and Eligibility
Housing Education and Advocacy services are provided to all individuals, businesses and organizations in Broome, Chenango and Tioga Counties.
