Assistive Technology for Students - 5/23/16 from 9:30 to 11:30
Assistive Technology (AT) can facilitate and enhance learning and instruction. AT can be used to maintain or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability. Every Committee on Special Education must consider whether assistive technology is needed for the student to accomplish his/her educational goals. Our presenters will share key points on AT and education law and the process used to determine if a student requires AT including:
• Assistive technology evaluations and AT devices and services in IEPs,
• Funding options for assistive technology in schools with info about applicable laws and regulations,
• Available AT resources in the Southern Tier, and beyond.
Community Hab is holding open interviews on 5/26 for our Direct Support Professional position. The open interviews will be held from 10:30a-4p.
The Collaboration Action Team (CAT)
is a monthly meeting in which a variety of community agencies come together to discuss and problem-solve complex challenging case scenarios. The focus is on issues related to individuals with mental health and/or developmental disabilities.
The CAT meeting is held at Southern Tier Independence Center (135 E. Frederick St., Binghamton, NY 13904) on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 11:30 until 1 PM. Lunch is provided. Any agency is welcome to join us and discuss or present a scenario on which they are working. The purpose of this group is to learn about what other agencies offer and to see "what else is out there" when an agency isn't sure how else to help or what to do next when dealing with a difficult situation.
There is a confidentiality statement that participating members must sign. Notes are taken and distributed via a password-protected ZIP file. One or two scenarios are presented each meeting depending on the size of the group and the number of scenarios we receive. We ask that people RSVP by the Friday before the meeting date so that we can have a head count for lunch. Also, if you have a scenario you would like to present, let us know by the Friday before the meeting as well.
